Scott's/Miracle Gro fined 125 million in criminal fines
I was glad to read this but wonder if it made any dent in their operations, and was it enough to really change things--

It is amazing and very worrying what companies do that kills off wild life for years and years then one day thy get brought to account and only get fined a miniscule amount when set against the damage they have caused
70 million units ( bags of bird food ???? 0 that woild have had an effect even if not a totally fatal one on around seven hundred million ( 700, 000,000 ) birds .
No won der we see masssive declines ijn the bird populations.
Ten or more years ago here in the UK we had a similar debacle with an insecticide called " Lindane " & peanuts for bird feeders , it wiped out large swathes of nut eating bird colonies .

We had a bunch of cedars die in the past year and I thought it was due to our drought. However, it might be otherwise. Thanks for the post.

Too bad Corporate Personhood doesn't extend to jail time for crimes. I'd love to see some of these companies shut down for 10 to life.

That's $12.5 Million not $125 Million
That's frankly just shocking.
Unfortunately, that's the kind of things that happen in many corporations, IMHO. People are tasked with accomplishing task A (storing the bird seed without an insect infestation) but don't think beyond what they do for task A.

Yes, it is 12.5 million plus another 2 million, 6 hundred thousand in fines as noted in the very last paragraph. Wouldn't be surprised if it still amounts to a slap on the hands for Scott's.

YEA! Brilliant idea, Unmutual. The corporation "entity" itself is held liable & accountable. When a human shoots another human, it's not just the trigger finger that gets jail time. Me likes!!!

Close to $3 Billion in revenue with $250 million in annual profits.
It's between a 5-10% of one year profits.
More corporate officers need to be accountable for jail time in corporations so they stop focusing on profits above all else.

Such people should additionally be sentenced to classes in logic AND ethics! And taught systems theory, as well as to look beyond the ends of their collective noses.
