Don't know if this was already on the forum somewhere.
The visual difference between backyard eggs and store bought.
I began to scramble one of each but stopped to show the difference.
Even though the store bought egg on the bottom has a firm white portion around the egg normally indicating freshness, you can't beat the nutrition packed color of the backyard pastured egg from my friends flock. Backyard chickens rule. chicken dance chicken dance

Wow that's a huge color difference! Thanks for posting, I have never seen a side by side comparison!

In his latest book, "Folks, This Ain't Normal", Joel Salatin takes you step-by-step through a comparison that is really interesting. He includes things like yolk color, yolk membrane strength, shell strength, etc.

I recently decided to try cage-free eggs and was astonished by the subtle but definite difference in flavor.

I took a class at the community center on urban chicken keeping, and the instructor told us about the difference in yolk color. She told us how one student who'd taken her class earlier and set up her own coop with hens, upon cracking open her first eggs called the instructor in a panic thinking something was wrong with her hens because the yolks were such a day-glo orange. Apparently the lady had calendula in her yard that the chickens liked to snack on.
