I've been reading a lot about gardening in general, and came upon sfg. Right now is my second season, my garden is in traditional inground rows, in 3 smallish plots around my tampa backyard. I am currently growing, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, blue lake bush beans, bell jalapeno banana peppers, carrots, scallions, radishes, lettuces, shallots, and several herbs. I think my gardens are unsightly, and the raised beds are much more asthetically appealing in an urban environment. Not to mention the fact that it will take years of ammending, or lots of money for me to truely have good soil in ground, and the raised beds take care of this too.
I am planning on building 2 4x4 beds by this fall, and adding 2-4 more by next spring. I've started composting in the back of my yard, and hope to have some good compost by next spring as well.
After i got my garden planted this spring, I cleaned house and spared some room in a large storage closet of mine. I mounted some closet shelving, and put 2x 4' shop lights over each shelf. So I am really looking forward to not only sfg in raised beds in the fall, but also finally starting my own transplants from seed. I put some basil, parsley, oregano, thyme, sage, and chives in there just so i can use it now, as i can be impatient. I may try some lettuce indoors too, when it gets to hot for it outside.
Just thought I'd let you know where i am with my gardening. You will probly see a lot of me here asking questions, trying to get things together for fall. When I start building, planting in my beds, I will post pics.

Re: New guy
Hi Jon! I'm in Tarpon Springs and a Square Foot Garden newbie as well. Though I've been living in the area for about 10 years now, I'm really just getting into veggie gardening. I'm having such a hard time adapting to the seasons here. But, so far I really love the look of the Square Foot garden beds over the other trials I've been doing. It's great to have other locals to talk to about this stuff!
