It IS a little creepy to work in the SFGs these days (since with all the rain we've had the pond is only about 5 feet from the boxes and this bad boy was lounging on the bank last week behind box #1.....)

Yes, he is pretty small by gator standards (4-5 feet long) but I'm just wondering if mama gator is still around..... Evil or Very Mad

And gator meat is tasty if it's cooked right. If not, it pretty much tastes like a tire. Wink

WOW what a great photo
I can just envision him eyeing one of my brandywine tomatoes....... LOL
It truly is amazing how a forum can be so ......worldly....
The ONLY way one of them could be eyeing MY garden would be if one of them had escaped from a zoo 350 miles south from here.

I guess if I could get a photo of a grizzly bear eyeing my garden....... that would be foreign to Florida.
This reminds me what a great forum this is.

Yesterday evening just before dusk, a huge black bear cautiously crossed my garden from the hill behind me and reached the roadside, then something disturbed him and he raced back up the hill. It is surprising how fast they move.

That is what has been disturbing my little dog these past few nights. affraid If I had let him out I am sure he would have been after that bear. He does not go out unless he has me on a lead.

I think I'd be more scared of a bear in my garden than a gator in my pond! My husband and I honeymooned in British Columbia - in January! We loved it! We skied at Whistler/Blackcomb and spent time on Tofino Island. Absolutely beautiful! Very Happy

I garden with a pair of them on a regular basis ...

They keep their distance, as long as there isn't a "snack on a leash" in close proximity....then they get real "curious".

Here's one of mine (sorry for bad cellphone pic);

We have bear right out our back door, I have never seen one there, but there poop is everywhere there....
I have seen several of them with in a half a mile of here though.
I have not seen a grizzly bear though they are apparently out here??

Many of my friends are afraid to compost for fear of attracting bears, personally I would be MUCH more afraid of YOUR critters...than mine Smile

My dog would chase them too, I run in the forest behind our place and yesterday came across a couple who though my dog was a bear to begin with......

Thats my backyard. Gator is about 30' from backdoor I guess.

They actually come up in the yard and sun themselves by the back porch.

No big deal .. we've left each other alone for the last decade and we always look before going out the back door.
