Runner beans not producing?
Does anyone have any experience with runner beans? I'm growing a variety called Painted Lady that looks like this.
They're beautiful plants that have grown at least ten feet tall. The problem I'm having is that they haven't produced a single bean, despite having been flowing since the beginning of July. I know that runner beans are different, that they actually need to be pollinated in order to set beans. What can I do? I've tried spraying the flowers with sugar water. I tried putting a cup with anise oil out by the plants, but they don't get any bees or humming birds visiting them. I think it's because I have them growing up the side of my front porch, at the other end of our property from our veggie garden.
Anyone else have any ideas? I'd be ok if they don't produce any beans because the plants themselves are lovely, but I sure would like to see what the beans look like or possibly save some seeds for next year.

It's sad but true, if there are no pollinators there will be no beans. Is there something else that the pollinators are currently attracted to in your area. Maybe you need to hire a hive of honey bees.
