Hello form Norwich
Hello to all.
My name is Gareth and I live in Norwich UK.
My partner Lois & I have embarked upon a project where we are trying to live sustainably from a growing space of only 9 sq/mtr. The project has been underway for 9 months now and we are getting there!

Welcone to the forum! Sounds like a great endeavor! I am assuming the you are doing square foot gardening, did you also use Mel's mix? I would love to see pictures of your garden!

Re: Hello form Norwich
How are you managing with all the rain that the UK has had the spring and summer?

Re: Hello form Norwich
Welcome, Gareth: When I think of Norwich, I always think of the Cathedral Spire.
How much have you managed to grow since you started? I am always interested in people starting their projects.

Re: Hello form Norwich
Hi Gareth & co,
Nine sq mtrs Wow or do you mean nine metres square ( 81 sq mtrs )
We run 12 veg beds 900 x 900 mm and there is no way we could be fully sustainable from them unless we grew and ate grass
Welcome to the site , have a blast and enjoy yourselves.
Are you Norwich natives or imports from elsewhwere ? Are you right in the city or outside the main area?
We have a vermiculite thread going where you shouild find a supply the coarse stuff if you're going to eventually run with Mel Bartholomews All New Swuare Foot gardening book 2005 edition ( most of us on here use the basic principles of his well thought out system )
I live in South wales just north of the west end of the M4 but used to live near Wisbech with a 1 1/2 acre plot to play on .
i've converted over from Mels original ideas using mother earth soil enriched with manures and home made compost to his bettter soilless growth medium using ( by volumes ) ... 1/3 composted coir /peat , 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 of a balanced compostmixxture made from five equal parts of different composts .
Have a look on the left upper side of your screen at the bobbles running down the screen and look up the composting threads ..
There is also a composting area in the forum ( I just love ambigious sentences )where we go to town on nmaking and discussing compost for it is the heart of the system.. with out it you'll not do so well as having it.
Hit the " Home "\ part of the top banner , it is in the drop down list .
all the best
David
