I was reading last years August and learned that when the geese fly it's time to plant spinach! How cool is that? Thanks, Camp.

What's everybody doing now?

The earliest I remember the return of geese was August 8. Very Happy I have not seen or heard any yet this year. Ye, it's August, I'm sweltering & sweating and canning cherries in the house. One of these days I'm setting up an outdoor canning station. Maybe next year. Very Happy

No canning here yet! But when it starts husband has a three burner stove he got from a friend that was stripping an old camper. It is propane. He says he will get a table set up for me over in the shade rofl So I don't have to heat up the kitchen!

I can't believe how humid it's become all of a sudden. Had to give my squashes, melons and cucs a cut back do to PM. Sad Then spritzed them with bkg soda/water/soap.

What do I do with the cut off leaves? Do they have to be trashed? They can't go in the compost pile, right?

I usually toss my diseased vegetation into the burn pile. Good pruning job. Don't forget to spray the underside of the leaves with the baking soda mix.

I read a cool book called something like the complete composting book, that said you can make a special pile for your diseased plants and weed seeds. That if you can get this pile really hot, it will take care of the diseases and seeds.

I don't have the room for that, so when i pulled down my peas covered in PM, I put them in a big bucket and poured lots of boiling water over them and let them rest til cool. Then put them in the compost!

This is what I do. I put it all in a pile, toss a few lit matches in and that sucker gets really hot, and fast too. Twisted Evil

All my cut leaves are still sitting in a pile in the middle of the lawn. It's so humid out that no match will light them, but I think they will boil on their own in this wet heat - 98 in the sun today! Ya start dripping just standing still.
