I found something cool
I was at the dollar store yesterday and I found this really neat item.

I discovered that it is stackable:

I immediately thought of when I start seeds in the house. Since we have a modest home, available space is limited so I usually resort to using my kitchen table, which thankfully, my husband tolerates. It wouldn't take up as much room. I'm not sure how high you dare stack them. I also thought of using it for strawberries and maybe some beneficial flowers near the veggie garden. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Those are great! I would love having those! It looks to me to be a 6" pot will fit in each spot. Is that about right? Great find, I want some!

So they will ship to the house? - Thought it said: "Orders are shipped directly to our California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas stores for you to conveniently purchase. More importantly, there are NO shipping or handling fees!songstriss wrote:If you go to their website you can order a case of 60! :lolsignwave:

Order online or by phone, pay and pickup at the store of your choice. We’ll even help
you load it.
If you don’t see an item you’re looking for email us at club99@99only.com or call us toll-free at (877) 399-2368… Customer support M-F, 8-5 PST.
Note: Minimum checkout amount is $47.99"
I'll go see if they have them at our Dollarstore too.

WOW I am
green with envy.
I would say that you can likely plant absolutely anything in them, from tomatoes to peppers, to strawbs to zucchinis.
Would it be polite to ask how much they cost?
We have a joke in our family about a cartoon we once saw, they guy went in to get shampoo at the dollar3 1:03 store
He goes to the check out and the lady says PRICE CHECK....on shampoo and the worker hollars back a dollar three....

Great find. Just picked up 8 of 'em. Was trying to determine how high to stack 'em as well. I think I limit to four tops though probably will stick to two.
Will probably use 'em for flowers and small herbs only. Not quite big enough for most veggies but cukes might work.

I'm super jealous. I went searching online for something similar since the store you listed isn't near me. Everything I've found is about $30 for a set of three of your dollar store pots... Craziness

Re: I found something cool
Songstriss ,
We had ten of those stackable growing trays like those in you first post but ours had five planting positions in each tray .
Two stacks of five raised up on six courses of un mortared bricks .. planted with strawberries and a few herbs in the top trays .
The result for us was a complete failure , they dried out so fast to fast even with local sourced mother earth . The fibre pots acted like wicks for any moisture in the pots . The slighetst wind kept drying them out and when it was a warm wind it was as though they were sat in front of a warm air drying fan
For us we reckon we would have had to have a drip watering system on most of the day . The lower trays are also difficult to ensure you get them well watered even with a long necked watering can .
We then removed the fibre inserts and tried again using normal garden earth they dried out even quicker .
When it got windy the lot blew over several times causing several pots to break up . I sent them to the recycling centre in the end .
I'm not even sure they would have even worked in the glasshouse as the volume of soil is so small in relation to the surface area .

Ooo, I like those tomato stakes, but they're way too spendy for me. Gotta figure out how to make something like that.Scorpio Rising wrote:I found 2 cool things lately in a catalog I received in the mail!

Re: I found something cool
I think that a gallon of water weighs about ten pounds. So, 30 pounds of water is a fair bit to carry around.
I would water plants that are near then work my way further up so that the can gets lighter as you water.

For those of us who are true garden geeks, also check out Gardener's Edge.
I'm currently salivating over a white, colonial-style, raised 50-gallon square water barrel with bright brass fittings! ONLY $149.00. Oh, well; one can always dream....

Re: I found something cool
Just for giggles;
8.345 pounds
A gallon of water (US) weighs 8.345 pounds. Five gallons of water weighs 41.725 pounds. That's 41 pounds 11.6 ounces. (So, I wonder how much Canadian or Mexican water weighs?
)
From the power of Google! It must be true

Re: I found something cool
My gallon is a British Gallon. I am only going from memory so it may be questionable.
But I do know it is somewhere round that, not enough to worry about.
One litre (liter) of water weighs 1 kilogram. I can spell English, Canadian and American.

Re: I found something cool
5 "US" gallons weighs 41.7 lbs
5 "Imp" gallons weighs 50.1 lbs.
Therefore, "Canadian" water weighs more.
