This is my first attempt a SFG, so I've had to start from scratch. Started out at places like Lowes, Home Depot & TSC, and then realized the farmer's coops have more than just large scale farming supplies. Also, discovered that a lot of the prices are better than at other places.

I’ve ordered some of the items I wanted at the Knox Farmer’s Coop on Maynardville Pike, after going to my local Coop and not getting much assistance. (In case you are in the Knoxville area, Danny Penland, the store manager, gave me his contact information – cell 865-719-6532, store 865-922-2115.)

Since TN is such a rural state, I think probably every county has a coop, and the website has a store locator feature. ourcoop.com has the statewide product catalog, and any local coop can order from the catalog – below are the items I found in the state catalog, and they are not usually in stock. You have to ask your coop to order the items for you. I’ve found that some of the coops are very helpful and willing to order for you, others not so much.

Worm castings 30# bag, item 777778
Moo-nure 25# bag, item 713045
Moo-nure 50# bag, item 185834
Garden magic compost & manure 40# bag item, 185722
Cow manure & organic compost 40# bag, item 85967
Espoma garden manure 2.75# bag, item 191074
Baccto Sphagnum Peat 3.8 Cu.Ft,, item 779124
Dalen Trellis netting 5x15 ft, item 85903
Dalen Trellis netting 5x30 ft, item 715376
Dalen Garden Paper Mulch 2x25 ft roll, item 715376
Frost Blanket 6x50 ft, item 713329
Dalen Harvest Guard row cover 5x50 ft, item 189969
Cedar raised bed garden, notches slide together, no dimensions listed, item 714393
5 different sizes of bone meal in bags
3 different blood meal in bags

I may be wierd but that just gave me chills that you could order so many different items from one place! Ok I know I am wierd! I am going to check our Cal Ranch store close by here and see if they will do that! They have always been so helpful.

I want to go to Tennessee so bad! My mom was born in Chattanooga and my ancestors are from Tennessee and other areas but I want to go to Tennessee to take some pictures. I think the house she grew up in is still there!

Thank you for letting us know so we can check out our places!

You can put vermiculite on that list also. At least those in the flat end of the state carry it in the 4 cu ft bags. And it is less expensive than buying it through garden supply stores.

CWJones, right! I initially got my big bags of vermiculite there - they had it in stock - and forgot to add it to the list. thanks!

Also, I asked about horse manure, and Danny told me that there is a horse sale nearby once or twice a month and they would probably give me all I wanted. I forgot to write down the place, though. There was a craigslist ad for free horse manure a couple of weeks ago. Actually, there is a stockyard right by the coop that might be a good source for manures.
