Well, Happy 4th to you too! Glad to get the children 'out the door'

Question: Are you anywhere near to London? Close enough to get your house paid off? I heard the prices might keep even the very 'well to do' away.

Jo

I was meaning you young nations getting free from the old UK and stopping pulling the lions tail ... just to annoy us Laughing

No ..... we live about 200 miles from London to the left along the M4 motorway just North of the west end of it.

House prices here in South Wales are almost the rock bottom of the UK housing market yet it is not a slum / sink area ... quite the reverse it is sought after for there is no shops , pub or any other shuch annoyance locally , the local junior school is renowned for producing quality kids .

It is semi rural , bueatiful set with trees and big nhills very close by .. we are on the edge of the Brecon beacons . What we sold our old minature bungalow for 6 mtrs x 12 mtrs foot print 20 feet x 38 feet enabled us to purchase a 20 mtr x 12 mtr 45 x 36 feet 9 ish ) one here for almost half of what we sold the first one for. We upgraded from a double bed room jobby wwithn the baby in a tiny box room and a handkerchief sized garden all solidly high fenced in , surrounded by identical boxes of ticky tacky to a three double bed room place .

In London you'd pay telephone numbers plus tax prices for this place it it were there.

The whole plot is about 180 feet long by 60 feet wide , we have concreted and paved parking for six or seven large cars if needed .

Hubby has the ribs on the deck in his cooker. Supposed to be 100° today so he didn't want to heat up the house. I have the crock pot going with roast for bbq sandwichs if he doesn't provide supper! Happy Fourth of July from Great Britain 889526 First time he has used the cooker and the girls got it for him for Christmas 3 yrs ago!

Thank you from us "children"! We are celebrating our independence but I am grateful our Countries have a good relationship! Your house and land sound just wonderful, good choice! It must be quite peaceful there, except when you have to swim to get to your garden (from all the rain), lol!

I bet you are loving the sun finally!

CindiLou ribs and roast bbq sandwiches sounds so yummy, I will be right there and then i will head to RoOsters for more ribs, lol!

Everyone has different schedules around here and one son is engaged so if he isn't working he is with his fiance'. My husband works evenings and our other son works evenings and goes to school! The other four kids have flown the nest and have families of their own!

Happy Fourth of July everyone!

All ours has left the nest. 3 live out of town, one out of state, one will be working this evening (but she don't like bbq anyway lol) The other, Heather, is Alex and Danny's (the grandkids I have 3/4 days a week) mommy, she lives half a block away so they will probably come over for ribs.

Other than that we don't celebrate much.

Hubby's work usually lets them have the 4th as paid holiday. Well full timers anyway. He would have had yesterday off as his holiday. He decided to work it at 2.5x plus $100 for bonus. We are going on vacation camping in two weeks so he thought that worked out great since it will be payday week Happy Fourth of July from Great Britain 889526

We used to do the carnival thing when the kids were home. But ours is really a lousy carnival so we are going to skip it this year. And it will be too hot to go to the fireworks...even if we could get close enough to see!

thank you very muchly! the nicest fourth of july celebration i've ever attended, in all my 50 (so far) years, was a party given to me by english friends in camberley. despite the fact that they grilled bangers instead of hot dogs, and had warm beer, and soft ice cream, it was just about as american a cook out as any my beloved filipino father ever threw. I was out of the country twice on the Fourth of July and it felt like I had somehow missed summer.

A little trivia - if you are 59, you have lived for 1/4 of the life of the country. And if you are 78, you have been alive for 1/3 of the life of the country. Puts it in perspective doesn't it?

Happy Fourth of July from Great Britain Empty Fourth of July

Post  memart1 7/5/2012, 7:34 am

My daughter had a short fuse and was born on the 3rd,48 years ago. Now today on the 5th she is going to take the State Licensing test to become an LPN. I am sure she will pass (At school her final scored 969 out of 1000) and I am proud. This is a big career change for her as she was a telephone customer service operator for 29 years before Verizon decided to close their local office.
Anyway, yesterday I was checking my garden, and found several eggplants starting to grow, and several wax beans. Also a female cucumber blossom, and several small cubanelle peppers (banana type). I only put in one bell pepper but that has two peppers the size of golf balls, and several smaller ones. My pole beans are about 4 ft high, and my spaghetti squash is growing well, but no blossoms yet. It was only planted about 3 weeks ago.
