Well my cucmbers were doing just great until I got hit with Cucumber Beetles. A word to all, keep a close eye on your cucumbers because they go quick when they are hit by these buggers.

The leaves began to get spots. It has been hot here in GA so i figured i might need to give a bit more water. I was fertilizing every 2 weeks and keeping the bed clean.

The vines began to loose their color. It seemed that over night the vines went from a nice deep green to a pasty white looking color. I was still getting great results with the cucumbers though.

Then i noticed that the new vine growth had slowed. The flowers were falling of the vines as well. The few cucumbers still on the vines turned pale green.

The lower leafs were now turning brown. Being my first year I was at a loss. I took some vine leaves and cukes, mature and newly formed, to a near by nursery. It was there i got the news. I returned home and have pulled all the plants out of the ground.

I have spread Seven Dust on the area and turned it over. I will repeat in 3 days. I am hoping the area will return when i add more MM and be ready to plant onions in Sept. I thought i was on top of things as far as pests and fungus but i guess not. I have learned a lot this first year from reading different books and magazines and from reading the posts here. I am still happy with my success so far.

I still have 10 Tomato plants that are at different stages of development. I should have Tomatos right up to first frost in Nov. My Radishes have have done well as are my Bell Jalapeno Chyanne and Thi peppers are full to over flowing. Carrots are slow but moving along. I will have a large selection of pumpkins for the fall and hopefully great tasting watermelons by the end of summer. I have started to push flags in the ground to keep track of the new watermelons so i do not step on them.

My small garden has not had any real problems from critters of any kind. The two cats that homestead in the back yard keep the uninvited at bay.

Hope everyone is have great success with your gardens this year as well. Keep your eye open and dont let your guard down. Protect your crops.

What a bummer for your cukes, I have found just one cucumber beetle so far but no eggs yet, as far as I know. It is amazing what a few little bugs can do in what seems like overnight. My sweet potatoes have been hit the hardest so far... Good luck and thanks for the info!
