Transplanted lilac bush advice
Can anyone tell me how to get a trasplanted lilac bush growing? My mom transplanted one that was cut back about a year ago. It is alive just not growing much are there any special tips/boosts for lilacs that have worked for any of you?

transplanted lilac
Cheyannarach,
I put in a few this Spring, and a master-gardener friend (non-sfg) told me that they might experience transplant shock and not grow much the first year. Could that be it?
I am watering mine deeply 2 - 3 times per week in this heat, and they are doing okay.
Good luck!

Re: Transplanted lilac bush advice
keep it watered and check with your extension service on fertilazation (type, amount, time of year, etc.).
if you do anymore transplants, look into using a really good amended soil as backfill...and possbily use a product with mycorhizae (Myke or Buffaloloam Compost Tea are a couple I have used for transplants). Root pruning before transplanting can help too.
You might also ask your extension service about pruning...sometimes it is best to prune the plant way back when transplanted to give the roots a smaller plant to support. Lilacs bloom on new growth so pruning can affect your bloom schedule.
