First Time SFG and love it!
So my grandma has been SFG'ing for the past 5 years and every year she has managed to out produce my traditional row garden. I did some research then picked up the SFG book and started out on a project for the winter.

Reclaimed cedar from the local casino, my buddy works at the dump as a composter and gave me a heads up.

I ran a circular saw down both sides of the cedar then used a hammer and stone chisel to split it. Chainsaw made quick work cutting the wood down to size.

a 4x4 box weights around 100lbs, the boards are about 4 inches thick.

My soil is insanely rocky, hated having to till it each spring.

Misia Pedro supervising the project.

Misia Pedro charging the mix with her secret powers.

Looking good.

Tons of hot peppers and tomato's! I make hot sauce if you're why so many peppers and tomato's, lol.

It took you five years to start taking notice of your grandma? You sure are a slow learner; but you are doing a marvelous job now and you need to till no more in your rocky ground, ever.
, and thanks for the pictures. We love pictures. Kelejan
P.S. Let us know if you outperform grandma this year.

Fantastic Job, gorgeous, I love what you've done. Great pic of little girl passing her Special Powers, precious. That outranks your efforts ya know
The use of natural products like bamboo, excellent. Enjoy your efforts. Be sure to use her Special Powers sparingly over the entire growing season and all will be wonderful.

What a super attractive garden plan. I love it.
Grandmas can be pretty darn intelligent, you know. I'm glad you finally decided she had some smarts in her brain box and you should follow her lead.
Good luck.

Thank's for all the great comments! Yeah, it was hard work but well worth it and the accomplishment feels great. I have a feeling grandma will be taking notes from me this year, lol.
I use a food waste compost, the tribe collects all the food waste from the local casino, trout hatchery and surrounding businesses and composts it with a wood mulch, it's amazing stuff. I make my own compost also from my left over food waste as well and also have a red worm composting bin but mainly just use the worm poop to make tea. Maybe I'll take some photos of the operation the tribe has going on.

A Very nice garden! I am coveting the cedar beams. You will never have to nake new bed boxes.

Does the tribe sell the compost to the general public. It would be a great source to tell our western NC members about.

Yes the tribe sells and delivers to the general public, I know they deliver to the Cashiers area and sometimes even further. They also sell "Millings" which is the by-product of the gravel making process (crushed rock). They will even mix the millings and compost together for you. I know remineralization is becoming very big. They also have a human waste compost that is free and a human waste compost mixed with double ground mulch that they charge for. I'll take some pic's Monday if I get time.

Interesting about the millings. I have heard of crushing rocks and oyster shells into dust to boost the minerals in compost/garden soil so the veggies have a better mineral content.

Fabulous garden! I'm sure your grandmother is proud of your garden too. Is your current SFG harvest the same, more or less than your previous garden set up?
Hope you share some of your bounty with your friend who tipped you off to the cedar.

This years SFG is blowing my past gardens out of the water, I'm guessing it will easily out produce it by 5x, seriously. While the SFG is the biggest factor I'm sure my use of worm tea, maxicrop seweed and fish emulsion as foliar sprays are helping also.

Rain everyday for the past two weeks here, starting to get some fungus on my tomatoes. I hope it dries out soon. I had to use a ladder to extend the tomato trellis today.

Re: First Time SFG and love it!
WOW! Look at that garden! So beautiful and lush. Congratulations on your beautiful garden.
A few years ago I had to use long branches cut from a tree to prop up the top of my 10' tomato plants. The next year I built an overhead trellis system.
If you get out your pruning shears and prune the tomato leaf stems, from the ground up, do not prune above the lowest fruit, this will increase the air circulation and hopefully slow down some of the fungal action.
I likey your windmill!

ZOMG this is so incredible!
What a beautiful space - you did such a great job!!!
So well considered.
Ps. Your small magician should be able to help with the fungus, no?
