Hail! Empty Hail!

Post  moswell 6/25/2012, 12:24 pm

Wow, I don't know about anyone else in the mid-Atlantic, but here in central Jersey we had quite the storm this morning with hail included. Fortunately the garden did not suffer at all - I guess east coast hail can't compare with the stuff they get out in the midwest. Very Happy

Did anyone else notice the hail?

It's just hitting us now on the lower Cape in MA. But there's barely any rain, let alone hail. I was set on getting 2 inches of rain today from this front but at this rate I'll be holding the hose tomorrow morning. Mad

We get the strangest weather out here in the ocean...

On the radar this morning there was your huge storm that reached all the way west to central Ohio with the tiniest radar dot seems like it was right over my house. It resulted in half dollar size raindrops that pounded the house for all of 3 minutes. With drought conditions here thats my rain until??...

That's sad (the drought and the very short rainfall I mean). Sad Our storm must have gone on for at least half an hour. I'm on vacation, so I was half asleep when it was going on!

Considering how warm and dry our winter was here, I'm pleasantly surprised at how much rain and cooler temperatures we've had so far. We had a real spring, and it was glorious (other than the four weeks of tree pollen allergies lol).

Your weather temps are great compared to here. I watch my hometown Long island weather on a daily basis. Here in central ohio, when it goes down to 75-ish, the weather people call it Fall-like temperatures! I could choke them. Whatever the temp is in central Ohio it seems 10 degrees cooler in your vacinity. Then my temps plus 10 degrees hotter is the norm for St Louis where my daughter lives. And even worse -for me- the entire south is another planet and intolerable altogether. I could use a summer home in Quebec....anyone??? What a Face

We too in western Canada have had lots of storms, in fact the lake beside me is flooding (we live down the block)
I have continued to cover my peppers up with plastic every night OR if storm clouds move in.

They are thriving all this babying...

We're having a drought. The lawns are brown, some of my perennials are scorched in the recent heat wave, the oak leaves are falling off the trees and littering the lawn (there goes next years compost pile): and the pond across the street is the lowest I've seen it in about a decade. Sad

Hail! Burnt_10

I was very hopeful about todays storm...but it seems to be over now.

Hail! Empty Hail

Post  SQFTBIX 6/26/2012, 4:12 pm

We had persistent winds here in Baltimore last night. Caused a little damage to my corn but that is how it goes. No real rain here in a while. Rain barrels (4/55 gals) are slowly but surely drying up. Guess I'd better get the old hose out so I can water my plants if this is how the rest of the summer is going to go. Shocked

Sometimes I wish we could trade some of this rain/heat/wind/etc. around in the World to balance things out! Wouldn't that be nice!

Ugh, someone send this heat away. My tomatoes aren't setting fruit because of it, and I can't take my dog for a decent walk without being afraid he'll succumb to heat stroke. How the heck do people in the south deal with this all the time?

Very Happy

Maybe they don't so much. My mother just arrived here to MA from FL. She says it's hotter here than there right now.
