Japanese Cucumbers Growing into a Curly-Q Empty Japanese Cucumbers Growing into a Curly-Q

So, my Japanese cucumbers are growing themselves into curly-Q's. I water regularly, once a day when it's not too hot and twice when it gets pretty hot. I have been fertilizing with organic fish and kelp liquid fertilizer and also dressing with Dr Earth fertilizer. I have been using both to the manufacturers instructions.

A side from the cucumber the overall health of the plant seem to be about average. What I mean by that is that it's not dying but it's not growing too much either. It seems to be in stasis.

By contrast, I gave a few of these to a friend and he has already started to harvest full size cuc's starting about a week ago.

Here's a few pic's and hopefully someone may have some clues as to what could be happening and what I may be able to do about it.

Those are cute! I'm sure that you want them to not need chiropractic treatment though. Is there a chance you are using too much fertilizer? Are you using MM in your beds? What is your friend growing his cucumbers in and is he using the same fertilizer as you are? I'm asking these so the experts can answer your question because I don't know the answer but this will give them something to go on.

those don't look curly to me... but it does look like they grew fused together... this could be a result of pollination.... maybe future fruits will grow more normally.

My son's Suyo Long Japanese grew in sharp U shapes. So I'm guessing this type of cuke tends to have a deeper curve than most.

The one I picked for the picture is pretty small, maybe about two inches in diameter. If I let it grow it would probably look like a coil spring from a car!

I don't think I'm using too much fertilizer. Every other month for established plants just like the directions say. Anything is possible I suppose....

I am using MM. My friend is using MM and he just recently learned about fertilizer (first time gardener) like myself....and wasn't using any until a month ago.

Except for one other cuc on a different plant the others seem to be growing straighter. The lower leaves are yellowing on all of the plants. I'll prune those off today. I gave them all a good water last night so maybe that will help.
