I got my dad a coffee grinder for christmass and some Community Beans (he is a big time Community drinker) and he was looking at it and wondering if he could grind up his Cayenne and other peppers in it. Anyone got any ideas

It would be a better idea to get a second grinder to use for herbs and spices. Not that I'd know from experience or anything, but spiced coffee isn't always everything it's cracked up to be.

humm.. that could work... I bet a burr (sp) grinder would really really be a decent idea.

I use my 'coffee' grinder to grind various dry things, most often flax seed when I am making bread. I say give it a try, but make sure it's wiped clean for the next item to be ground. A food processor or mortar and pestle are alternatives.

I also use my coffee grinder for all kinds of things: flax seeds, coconut, grinding rolled oats into oat flour...

Just wipe it out with a damp cloth afterwards, no problem!

I'm with you on the mild things -- oatmeal in your coffee probably wouldn't be noticed.

Chili peppers, however...yowza.

I found the coffee grinder to be ineffective on my cayenne peppers last year. Mine is an older blade model not a nice burr grinder but it just was not very good. I had better luck just letting them dry fully then busting them up in a mortal and pestle.
