Free downloadable garden books
Not SFG, but it is free reading. Free downloadable garden books- PDF and other types. Cornell University online library. There are books on other subjects available. These are mostly older from what I saw but still excellent reference materials.

Re: Free downloadable garden books
I, too, tried the link, and wasn't satisfied with "Page not found
We’re sorry, the page you have requested is not available".
So, I went to the top of the page and cleared all but "Gardening" from the left search box [mediatype:texts AND collection:cornell AND subject:"Gardening"]
Skipping over the (presumably) non-English book, a couple of possible children's books, and the "Occupy"version of a guerrilla gardening one, I opened The principles of vegetable-gardening by Bailey, L. H. (Liberty Hyde), 1858-1954. It's copyright 1912, and advocated row-gardening, with what I took as a sneer toward bed-gardening: "The old practice (sic remember, it was only 1912) of growing vegetables in beds ... has had the effect of driving more than one boy from the farm."
I did see mention of an audio file praising Mel's book and concept, but I spent too long reading about home gardens in the year of my Gramma's birth; wasn't gonna spend 62 minutes trying to find one part of a recording (Yup, there's that un- or self-diagnosed ADD! ) ...

The link worked fine when I posted, but not now. The problem seems to be on their end, because my shortcut that I have been using for a week, also does not work.
