My first harvest
Not much, but my first official "harvest" so I had to share. The cabbage worms are at work but I'm squishing them when I find them and am going to use some soap spray (as soon as I get the soap). Thankfully, Amazon.com sells just about everything!!! Who needs a car?
Re: My first harvest
How are you going to prepare them?

Re: My first harvest
Thanks for indulging my braggadocio...
We love steamed kale or kale chips with a little Tony Chachere's. Any good suggestions? I have a small harvest of lemon basil, Queen of Sheba basil, thyme, rosemary and cilantro as well. Oh, and a few tiny radishes (I planted them too close together and didn't thin them...I need to raise that bed next year...I can barely reach it...silly me!)

kale - YUM!
My husband hated kale until this year...I turned him with the following recipe:
heat 2 T olive (or other) oil in a heavy bottomed pot with tall sides
use tongs to place the (just washed, still a little wet, de-stemmed) kale into the pot (it will hiss and spit at you), turn frequently for about 3 - 4 minutes.
add a few heavy splashes of white wine vinegar, keep turning for another minute
collect kale at one side of pot - then tip pot a little and saute chopped garlic in the oil that pools abt 2 minutes
toss all ingredient together in the bottom of the pot. Add a touch of salt. Serve. Yum!
You could saute bacon :drunken: and onion in the oil before adding the kale - that would also be awesomely fabulous!

Sounds delish, Amanda! Garlic and/or bacon with any green is a plus! I also forgot to say that I like kale sauteed in coconut oil....spinach, too...and just a touch of salt. Thanks for the great ideas!
Re: My first harvest
I love seeing this! I didn't do any kale this year, but did get hooked on the swiss chard. That recipe looks really yummy, I think kale is definitely going to be in the next go 'round!
