I found these "eggs" on the leaves of my tomato plants and eggplants. Can anyone identify these "eggs" and tell me what they are. My camera does not take very good up close pictures and the lighting affected the color of the "eggs" But they are kind of translucent, fairly hard, and when squished make a popping sound and clear liquid comes out of the "egg"

Foe or Friend Empty Could They Be Lady Bug Eggs?

Post  GardenSurprise 6/3/2012, 7:33 am

I love your description! Could they be lady bug eggs? If you google it, you can find info and pictures of lady bug eggs on-line. You might take a branch from each of the plants that has eggs on it--do not disturb the eggs--to your Ag. office or to a good Nursery with a Master Gardner in it. Be sure to call first and make an appointment so you catch the right person in. Also, put the branch in some water to keep it fresh. How the eggs are arranged and where they are on the leaf will help to identify them too. Have Fun! I hope it is good Lady Bugs or something else that is good and not some bad pest. At any rate identification early can help you fix any potential problems early.

I just found the same thing on my tomatoes...but they weren't in any uniform pattern. I found one on one leaf and another one on a different leaf.

I agree with LeeAnne. They are on a few leaves. No damage done. Only one here and there. No problems with the leaves. They are not securely fastened to the leaves and would fall off if you tried to move the leaf. I will try to do a search of lady bug eggs but only saw one lady bug yesterday when I found the "eggs".

Thanks for responding. I brought some into the house and will put them in a jar to see if they hatch.

Yolos...these are definitely your enemy!!! They are tomato hornworm eggs, so you might want to destroy them.
