Best places for beds in hot weather
We are moving in a few days and I was rethinking where to put the 2 beds when we get there. I feel like the one I have now is getting sun all day and tomatoes are doing awesome but the rest of the plants have slowed way down. I have a friend that told me to put them in a place where they get only morning sun. But then what about when it gets colder? Wouldn't I want them to be getting more sun than that? Should I move them and how?
Thanks you guys are all so helpful, I love this forum!

Re: Best places for beds in hot weather
Where you moving to? I live in Southern SC, and it gets hot as h___ here in the summer. I put my garden around/under a big pine tree. Some shorter bushes on 1 side. The only plant that get sun all day is the okra. A lot of plants say 'full sun', but that does not necesarily mean 12 hrs of 100+ degrees. Mulch a lot, and do give a bit of shade if you can.

Re: Best places for beds in hot weather
I think you have a couple options. I put mine near some trees that give it pretty good shade in the summer afternoon, but I get great morning sun and a little filtered light in the afternoon. It seems to be doing pretty well, and in the spring before the leaves really came in it got a lot more light, which will also be the case in the fall (although I'm going to be picking leaves out of it like crazy.) If you don't have a place that it can get some shade you could also give it some artificial shade with shade cloth covers when it's really hot. Now, I'm new with the SFG but I did some container gardens before and really had to move my peppers and tomatoes in the heat of summer, the GA sun was just too much in July for them (and for me for that matter!)
