I have found already that the biggest threat to my garden is....my 18 month old toddler. So far he has pulled broccoli out of it starter trays, thrown a tomato seedling out the window, knock my potted herb starts onto the floor countless times, and other general mayhem! I can't wait until the last frost and I can just leave everything outside!

I remember the year my oldest was just walking when I put in the garden. Very challenging! My 3rd is now 6 months, so I'll be right there next year with him! As it is, he spends a lot of time in my arms as I tend the garden and has torn off a leaf or two.

hehe that reminds me of a story I was told I did
A while back my great grandfather and father were using the tire method to grow potatoes. I was "helping" them by weeding out the small one. Of course to a 6 year old they all look small and I proceeded to through them over the fence into the road. Needless to say the harvest that year was not the greatest

Funny thing is I think I will dedicate my first potato harvest (when I can plant them) to my great grandfather who started me on a gardening path about 30 years ago

Also need to add the beer cans certain family members of mine keep planting

My friend painted small pictures of her vegetables & flowers on some small river rocks. She included their names & the year the plant was originally planted. She placed them decoratively next to the plants. While she was in the garden a few weeks later her son played happily behind her. Suddenly, he drove his little dump truck over to her feet. "Vrrooom, Vrrooom!" and dumped all her rocks in a pile! "Look Mommy!" He was so proud of himself that she couldn't stop laughing. It was either laugh or cry. She said it took her the rest of the summer to get all those rocks placed next to the right plants.

Biggest threat to my garden is...... Empty Garden help

Post  PB Tue Apr 20, 2010 8:08 pm

No matter what he pulls up. Cherish these memories. My little "helper" will be 21 next month!

One year we were in our traditional garden. The ground was too wet to run the planter through. I really needed to plant the green beans. I decided to make a hole with a stick. Allison was about 4 at the time. She was to come along and put a bean seed in the hole. When I turned around she was filling up the hole with the seeds. I laughed and we finished planting the seeds. Those seeds came up in profusion. It looked like a bean bush hedge row!! I have always heard though that anything a child plants will grow!!
