Post  Pepper 5/28/2012, 8:44 pm

Over the holiday weekend I added a new bed. It is 4ft by 8ft by 12in all dug in to hopefully stop the grass intruding. First I built the box. Added a new bed P5263115

Placed it in position, marked the outline with an axe, cut the outline with the edger. Gug up the sod, using it else where in my yard. Added a new bed P5263116

Gug the bed to at least one shovel depth, sometimes more. Added a new bed P5273111

Added a new bed P5273112

Sunk in below ground and leveled. Added a new bed P5273113

Then filled and leveled with MM. Added a new bed P5273114

Now for the sweet potatoes, lima beans and whatever else the misses wants to have planted.

Me two GWN bounce bounce bounce

Just got me some sweet potatoes to go in the north side( the 8 ft side). I am just tring to decide if I should give them 2 squares each ( use two 8ft rows ) and put the trellis between the third and fourth row. It should give the taters more room to grow.

I am envious of the box! It is great. I just wish I coud afford one like it. However, I did decide to buy a premade box from HD. Only $34.97! 4X4X7 Added a new bed Hd_rai10
They also have 42" diameter 4" deep bed for only $19.97. So will be getting both this Friday.
Now that I have plot at our community garden, I can finally get going. Late in the season is why I decided to buy them.
Oh, the 4X4 is cedar.

My son has 2 of those. I caught a sale at HD in Oct/Nov 2010 about the time I first spotted ANSFG. With the sale price and his 10% military discount we were able to buy 12 beds, 2 of which were this model. I have 9 of a different cedar model at my house and he has 2 plus a plastic model at his house. Second year on one of them and the plastic one and they are still looking good even be put next to the last one put in this year.

Glad to know this, Kay. I was thinking I would buy at least 1 a month my first year of gardening to build up my beds.
Thanks for the info.

A flashback to the late 70s. My kids would say cool beans.
And in this case it is literal.
