Improved Telegraph Cucumbers
Improved Telegraph Cucumbers
Anybody with experience with Improved Telegraph Cucumbers, aka the hothouse cukes you see shrink wrapped in the stores?
Mine are growing well and I have about 18 fruits set on three plants, the first of which are close to 8 inches long. There's a bunch more small fruit ready to start growing. They'll get much longer and bigger like the store, but I'm curious how small you can start harvesting them and not have them taste funny?
I've heard in Europe that they have the variety in the store and are picked much smaller than in the US. Just wondering if picking at 6-8 inches will taste good in this variety and help keep the planting prolifically producing cukes.
Thanks

Re: Improved Telegraph Cucumbers
I would say that with 18 fruits set, it wouldn't hurt to pick one and give it a try! If you don't like the taste, let the next test cuke get a bit bigger.
