My First Attempt at SFG

This is my first year at SFG and over the past month and one week I've experienced both highs and lows. The highs were a result of seeing the garden complete and plants starting to grow. The low was a reslut of a rabbit paying the garden a late night vist.

So far everything is coming along well, including the replanted beets and radish.

That's why I had the hubbie build a fence around mine. And to keep the cats from crapping in it. Razz

I've actually considered doing the same but the tight restrictions prevent me from doing so. Come to think of it I'm shocked that the neighbor's cat hasn't tried using it as a litter box. LOL.

Thanks camprn. I'm a little more than a year into photography and figured the growing garden would make the perfect subject to experiment. Glad you enjoyed them.

As to the rabbit problem; there was a recent thread about rabbits, in which a couple ideas were offered including the use of fencing, livetraps, hair, and consumtion! And if you search the forum I am certain you will find a few more threads to get more suggestions on how to deal with that problem! Good luck! Very Happy

Carybcom, lovely looking bed, much better than my utilitarian ones. Makes me want to do better.

I notice that the bed is 5 square x 6 squares. How will you cope with seeing to the three inside squares. Being a smallish person myself, I find that three squares wide makes for comfortable weeding as I do not have to reach more than 1 1/3 squares.

Thaks Brenda, I appreciate it. I've searched around and decided to put fur from my dog, who sheds year round, between the landscaping blocks. It's been a couple of weeks and so far so good. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the compliment Kelejan. With respect to the 5X6 squares we jumped the gun on that one. I figured that it wouldn't be that difficult to work the middle plants, I now know I was wrong. While it's possible to work the plants I find myself having to place a knee on the landscaping block and lean inward. I should have stuck with my original plan of 4X6 but I decided to get a little greedy.

I'm starting out new to SFG (actually gardening in general) so it's helpful to hear all the ups and downs people have had too. All of my first leg of plants are popping through, and it is amazing the sense of accomplishment I am feeling. I find myself peeking out the window at my little 3X6 bed every hour or so, just to make sure it is still there! Razz

I go out every single day and just stare at my little seedlings. I pretend I'm actually doing something useful like pulling weeds or feeding them so the neighbors don't think I'm nuts, but no, I'm just looking at my little babies.

What about sacrificing a couple of squares by putting a 11'x 11" pacing slab in them?

When our daughter gets home off the bus she goes straight to the backyard to check on all of the veggies(she helped plant everything so she has a vital interest too Wink

). I take pics, like I'm taking pics of my kids, and send them to my husband at work via text if something new has changed since the day before. Aren't we all funny creatures....
