Preservatives in store bought manure?
Are there preservatives or any other chemicals added to store bought manure?

I don't think so, but I think it would be a perfect thing for a store clerk to research.

First of all, to the forum!
That does seem counter intuitive, doesn't it? Best way to avoid it is if you can get local sources of manure from farms you can question about their practices. But then you'd have to compost it, unless they had a composting operation.
Back in NC I knew of an organic farm that sold compost that included manure in the mix, so they do exist. I'm having trouble finding such a thing down here, so had to wait until I could get down to Gainesville to get any composted manure.

Hi catderm and welcome to the forum! I've read the ingredients labels on plenty of bags of compost recently while looking for my five types. I never saw anthing I couldn't pronounce, so I wouldn't worry about preservatives. As far as any other chemicals... Ummmm, some have additives but I'm blanking on the names right now and I don't know if those would be considered chemicals anyhow. They are all about soil improvement. With compost it's usually fillers you have to be concerned about - peat or straw... That's my thoughts on it anyway.
