Possible frost in SE MO tonight
We have a forecast of possible frost tonight.
I have 2 sfg with plants up, lettuce onions, radishes, spinach, beets, cabbage and beans. Should I cover them up tonight.
How cold can it get before it hurts these crops?
Also, my strawberries are blooming, maybe I need to cover them too.
Thank you

i wold cover them. as for me, tonight i'm going to be using individual 'greenhouses' - milk jugs with the bottoms cut off. i like it better than the covers mentioned in the book. i use that style cover but the milk jugs do a great job of keeping each plant individually warm.

Re: Possible frost in SE MO tonight
It's supposed to get down to 31 here tonight, maybe even a little snow. I put my cover on. My lettuce, broccoli and strawberries survived a night of temps down to 29 a couple weeks ago without a cover. The one pea plant I had so far didn't make it. My cover is just plastic over criss crossed hula hoops. Keep in mind this will only buy you a couple of degrees but it might be enough. It does help with wind protection. If you have the stuff for the covers I'd do it. Just be ready to take them off or open them early tomorrow if it gets sunny & you're using plastic. You can cook your plants real fast in the sun.

yeah I would cover, even if just with a bed sheet. More than the cold it is the frost that I think kills plants.
Re: Possible frost in SE MO tonight
Well according to my thermometers it got down to 28* outside and 29* inside my plastic & hula hoop SFG cover. Only 1 degree better, but nothing seems damaged. What I have planted so far: broccoli, cabbage, romaine lettuce, strawberries, onion sets that have about 2" growth on them, and peas that are just starting to come up.
