Moncure, NC new garden
Hi everyone!
I have a much loved copy of Mr. Bartholomew's book from 1981. After years of growing things in pots and planters and little bits of ground here and there, I have finally dipped my toes into the type of garden I've been dreaming of for a long time. Long story longer, my husband and I cleared a half acre patch of land a year and a half ago, started a compost bin, built a small shed/barn, built a 6x8 greenhouse, cleared a 16x24 section of ground, set some fence posts and ran out of steam...until recently.
Hubby tilled up half our "garden" area and then we built 3 4 foot square raised frames (we eventually want to expand to 12 total frames). We filled those frames with magic soil and today I have been planting. I set out 4 tomato plants, 16 garlic sets, 2 bell pepper plants, 4 oregano, 20 marigolds, a yellow squash plant, a zucchini plant, 4 sweet basil, and 4 Thai basil plants and then planted seeds...2 squares of carrots, 2 of lettuce, 2 spinach, 2 bush blue lake beans, 3 nasturtium, 2 eggplant, 1 half chives/half onion sets and two squares of acorn squash.
There are so many more things that I am wanting to grow, but we are trying to pace ourselves as we figure out what we need to feed our family and share with friends. We do plan on doing a couple of more frames this season to grow more herbs and some potatoes.
Happy growing!
Leah

Re: Moncure, NC new garden
Leah, Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you're an SFG'r already. I love that you are getting so many things planted or sown in your garden.
Don't forget to post pictures in a week or so. I know that newbies can't post pictures for about a week, but after that, we love seeing everyone's progress. Enjoy.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I have been a SFG'r in concept for a good long while and it feels great to finally put it in to practice.
I will post a photo or two soon!
