Pacific Northwest new to sfg

So our garden last year upset me so I decided to find out about garden boxes and came across Mels SFG book and fell in love with it and told myself if I was going to try it it would have to be like he said soil and all. And to test other boxes with soil that is a good mix with compost and see what happens.

Up above is my main first box. I have to figure out the havesting part but I have my daily salad I believe. My firsy row has the netting to I am going up with it for best space conservation.

These are boxes that the top rows are against the pasture fence so they can crawl up it I am just not sure about how the vines will do against the metal fens but 4in squares do help but not sure about height either so we will see inoput would be nice if anyone has any.

I still have one more box with mels mix like the top one but do not have a definate plan for it yet it may be my in a month start more veggies I don't know. If anyone has any ideas or input on the plan now I would appreciate it. I am feeding 5 adults and a 2 year old that at times eats like an adult.

I was really happy to stuble across this site and join. One plant I could use some imput on is celery? Spacing and the best way to grw it would be helpful. I was so excited to get my 4x4 fully planted but one square yesterday so waiting for seeds to grow and hoping to get soil in my 3x8 and get them planted this weekend.

I'm not sure where in the Pacific NW you are, but there are some of your crops that will most likely do better for you under cover for the entire season, and some extra heat generating protection in the early stages. Also... in many areas of the PNW, melons don't do well at all. Most successful growers of melons are east of the Cascades where the summers get hot.

Just saw your question about celery. Celery is a heavy feeder, so many people plant it singly in a square. I'm going to try two per square this year to see how it does. I plan to side dress these squares during the growing season if needed with compost or urea to give them that extra that they might need. If you want light colored celery like you see in the stores, you will need to wrap the stalks for about a week (or a bit more) before harvesting. Otherwise it gets dark green and very strong tasting (good in soups and stews but not raw)

Thank you so much about the celery now I will get it in the ground. I am located in Oregon City, OR. Portland area and I understand your thought on the melon I am going to try and see what happens I know pumpkin works so now for the rest.

Well this weekend I got all my melon corn and peas and beans planted. Am patiently waiting for my main garden that I am using to fully test this theory of SFG exactly to sprout which is hard to do and it is still raining more than the sun is showing. Got to get the whiskey barrels done and my tomatoes planted in them:)
