We built the salad table today!
It took about 2 hours to make (we built a second shorter one for my best friend) and I really like it.
We used these plans: Salad Table
So, here it is!
Since it will be in a soggy part of our back yard we decided to use pressure treated lumber for the legs. The front right leg looks wobbly because we hadn't tightened the lag bolts yet. I'm going to add weed cloth on top of the aluminum screening.
We're going to build a third one but smaller so that I can use it as a demonstration bed.
I was amazed at how many different crops you can grow that are so shallow rooted according to the instruction sheet:
Broccoli
family-arugula, kale, mustard greens, radish, cress, broccoli raab,
mizuna, kyona, komatsuna
Beet family- spinach, chard, orach, beets
Lettuce family- lettuces, endive, escarole, chicory (Note: ‘Deer
Tongue’, ‘Red Sails’, ‘Bronze Arrow’, ‘Jericho’, and oak leaf types are
more heat tolerant)
Parsley family- chervil, parsley, cilantro Mint
family- basil, thyme, anise hyssop
Other crops- leafy amaranth (callaloo), sorrel, purslane, claytonia (miner’s lettuce), corn salad (mache)

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Looks good, Kim
I was interested in that salad table when you mentioned it a couple of months ago. I especially like the way the legs are attached.

I need to cut off the ends of the lag bolts that are inside the box. Hubby said, "Well no one will SEE them." To which I replied, "Yeh, but when I run my hand across them while I'm planting I'm not going to be very happy."
LOL The other day when we were unloading the lumber he swung around and hit my arm. It bruised up pretty good so I'm telling everyone my husband beat me with a 2x4!

That is just so beautiful ! I love the thought of my salad at waist level ! Seems like it would be so much easier.

Thanks! We also had the driveway doubled (also pavers) so we could get both cars off the street and retaining walls to level the front yard. LOL we did this as protection from our elderly next door neighbor. When she drives past the house she tries to look into my windows so her body is facing my house. She's had THREE accidents in the last 12 months. :drunken:

Very Nice looking table! And if you ever want to move it, it'll be light from the al. screening and weedblock, compared to the weight of 3/4 inch plywood bottom.

Yep, the pressure treated lumber makes it heavy enough.

Kim, the table looks great!
You might want to talk to the family of the accident prone neighbor. And/or, report her anonymously to your DMV. They will have her come in for a screening. Check their website for the form.
Hardest thing I did was take my mother's keys away.

Her daughter called me once about an unrelated issue and I told her that the hardest (and bravest) thing we ever had to do was stop mom from driving. I told her that I just wouldn't be able to live with myself if mom hurt herself OR someone else and I didn't take action. I may as well have been talking to a wall.
You would think that with that many accidents they would have already taken her license away. I'll look for the form you mentioned.

Re: We built the salad table today!
My siblings didn't want to do anything about it either, because it put pressure on them to drive her around (I lived a thousand miles away, they lived 3-10 miles away, but I oversaw her care & $$). That could be where the daughter is too. She probably has a full life and parenting a parent is difficult.
Hope you found the form. Accidents don't flag anything at the DMV unless you don't have insurance.
