Seedling #1 (Tiny first leaves and tiny true leaves)
Unmarked Seedlings & Lettuces _id_ds10

Seedling #2 (big first leaves, teeny-tiny true leaves)
Unmarked Seedlings & Lettuces _id_ds11

Seedling #3 (bell pepper or eggplant?)
Unmarked Seedlings & Lettuces _id_ds14

Lettuce #1 (lettuce entertain you...all from an unmarked pony pak of 'mesclun')
Unmarked Seedlings & Lettuces _id_ds12

Lettuce #2 & #3 (fromt the same ponypak; I see the green one in photos everywhere, but never identified)
Unmarked Seedlings & Lettuces _id_ds13

Once I had this great link to a green website where the blogger had photos and names of lettuces he grew. It was beautiful.

I thought I found it on this forum. I seached high and low last night, but could not find it. I scrubbed the web to no avail. I looked at hundreds of photos of lettuce last night, only to be muddled in confusion of the same lettuce being called different names. Where's the Latin standard for these things?!?!

As for the seedlings...the first two are very old seeds I was testing in an large pot. The two should be different plants, but they look the same (except for the size of the first leaves). The 3rd seedling...I planted bell peppers in 3 consecutive squares on 3/6. Nothing is coming up. I may have replanted that square with eggplant. The other 2 squares have nothing in them. I've never grown either, so I don't know what these babies are.

Thanks in advance ~

AvaDGArdner..do a image google search for claremont romaine and see if that's the lettuce (green) in your picture. It is close in resemblance.

The red lettuce looks similar to a variety I planted and really enjoyed last fall...'Rossimo'.

@landarch Which red one would be rossimo? The deep red (#1) or the red and green (#2)?

Google Images isn't working (for an answer I get a blank page with 'done' in the corner). Where else can I look?

Not sure of the name but it is a common weed in this area.

It is cheese plant or common mallow according to my daughter.

The red/green and maybe the deeper red lettuces could be Red Sails. Mine got deeper red as they matured.

Red Sails is common, and I'm not a lettuce expert but Rossimo is described as "red" and "blistered". I don't think Red Sails is "blistered" from what I saw today at the nursery.

Thanks Linda. The two reds are definitely different. The dark one has always been dark red, and has a frilly edged leaf. The bicolor has been a bicolor. I need to look at it from the side and see if it might be a red romaine?

+1 to your daughter! She is correct...[image from F&K Starr, Plants of HI]

Malva Parviflora (aka cheeseweed or cheese weed)

Online images do show it to have a pretty purple and white flower, but I've not seen the flowers on the plant. Apparently they are favored by monarch butterflies, and are classed a winter broadleaf. I hope they disappear with warmer weather. We pull them as fast as we do dandelions & caster plants!

The #1 dark red could be Merlot - That's one that's new to me this year
(fedco seeds)

#2 red-tipped could be DrunkenWomanFrizzyHeaded

Unmarked Seedlings & Lettuces Roundf10

In the left back of my "RoundFoot Garden" on the porch is Revolution and on the right back is Drunken Woman Frizzy Headed. This photo is from last June.

On the right side of the following photo is Revolution in the SFG on July 1, looks more like your dark red one

Unmarked Seedlings & Lettuces More_l11

Your #1 Deep Red looks a lot like Revolution from Territorial Seeds

Your #2 Red Tipped seems to have too much red for Drunken Woman Frizzy Head from Territorial Seeds

So many seed merchants offer similar varieties with different names that it makes identifying unknown seeds very difficult.
