Re: Home Depots Pro Mix
if it's half peat and half perlite, then mixing it with a 5 blend compost would be a pretty close MM with a few additives. Since perlite is an acceptable substitute for vermiculite, it might work. But I'm betting it is more like 2/3 peat and peat humus and a lesser amount of perlite which would make your mix peat heavy needing additional perlite/vermiculite and of course compost. The problem would be getting the proper balance.
BIG IFFY here.

PS last year when I was trying to buy vermiculite and peat, most of the nurseries tried to direct me to this product.

+1. When I could not find the vermicuclite in my town, I went with a pro-mix type product then added extra compost. Not ideal but do-able. Read the package and do some math, try to get as close to the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 recipe of Mel's mix that you can. I strongly recommend getting the 5 types of compost. If you do, you will be loving life and your garden at harvest time.walshevak wrote:if it's half peat and half perlite, then mixing it with a 5 blend compost would be a pretty close MM with a few additives.
