Well first about the tomatoes, we have had upper 70's to lower 80's during the day and it has gotten no lower than 48 at night in about 2 weeks, so we actually have started the tomatoes early for our area, we dont see it frosting again so we decided to take a chance. In regards to the wooden blocks, it is just the way we built our box, that way if we decided to make it deeper we have guides to go by. Very Happy

Looks great and I think you may have just helped me!! Wood here is pricey and I have been trying to figure out what to do to cut costs. It looks to me like you used some kind of heavy duty twine or string instead of wood strips to section off your square feet right? Did you screw or nail them down? It looks like you then tied the intersections together right? Genius!

I used string in my beds this year, too. It's my first year and I'm doing this without man-help, so I have to do what works for me.

I used those little u-shaped, double-ended barbed-wire fence nails to nail into the frame of the garden bed and left just a bit of the loop sticking up to make a loop to tie to.

Hey we actually used roofing nails that have plastic covers, we tied it at one end and then looped it around the other end then came back to the original end to tie them together, so we had a double line. We then nailed them down to secure the ends. And yes we did tie at each intersection to keep nice and rigid. It saved us a good bit of money considering the twine we used was only about $1.30. Very Happy
