potatoes
I have a question regarding the planting of potatoes in the SFG.
I have previously grown potatoes in a mix of "garden compost" and perlite (for drainage) with a lot of success. All of the information I've ever found regarding potato culture says that they don't like "particularly rich" soil, with a pH of 5-6 (acid), and like well drained soil (but still need rather frequent watering to do best)
I am thinking that the MM is "particularly rich", given the blend of compost used, and due to its makeup (fluffy) would drain fast enough to not need the perlite.
So, my question to anyone who has had a lot of success with potatoes in their boxes is this: Do you feel that the MM made growing your potatoes easier than any you've grown in soil or some other medium?
Since my potatoes will be grown either in separate riser boxes or a separate bed (not filled yet), I have the luxury of being able to use either.
