Trimming Sycamore Trees

It's me again--stressing about another topic. I have beautiful Sycamore trees in my yard. They are over 100 feet tall and have grown limbs spreading out over my roof. I am definitely hiring this done. The only other Sycamores are on two lots that haven't been built on. I haven't ever seen any trees so tall being trimmed--maples and pines are midgets in comparison. What do I look for in a trimmer who is experienced enough not to be dropping the limbs onto my house?

I did learn something new this week. Did you know that you could be current on this year's property taxes--even if the two previous years haven't been paid in full--and it doesn't show that on your current assessment? You also may be surprised to find out that someone in CA can pay those back taxes and put a lien against your property? Too bad I only have one engagement ring . . .

Here is a fact sheet about hiring an arborist in your state. Another place you could call is your local extension service. Make sure you get an arborist and someone insured to be dangling in your trees. Another reason to choose an arborist is they can tell you about your trees, choose to trim and prune to the benefit of the magnificent sycamore. Good luck!

Be very careful. You do need an arborist, not some guy who says he trims trees. In the west they are harder to find than the east. I would suggest Angie's list possibly for recommendations. Make sure they have insurance and if they come and are obvious bozos feel free to put the breaks on and start over.

Be sure they have insurance, ask to see proof. Might ck. with the better business b. too.



For folks that want to grow Sycamore trees:You cannot hardly kill them. If ya want a straight row of sycamore trees, find one that is being cut down and get some limbs to make fence posts with. Use as fence posts til they root and start a row of trees. I saw this happen when I lived in OK.
