Acorn Squash
I want to plant some acorn squash this year, and I've got an acron squash ready to cut up and cook. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you know if I can just plant the seeds in the squash I already have, or would it be better to buy the seeds? (I'm not sure if it's a hybrid plant, which could mess things up.)

Re: Acorn Squash
I've saved and dried acorn squash seeds, and they grew for me the following year. I've never tried planting a fresh seed.
Where I'm at, it's way early to plant squash. You might try germinating some seeds inside to see if they will grow.

Re: Acorn Squash
Yeah, I wasn't planning on planting it until I'm ready to plant the tomatoes (I assume that would be about the right time.)
Is there much difference between a fresh seed and a dried one? Do you think I should be doing something to prepare it for planting?

Re: Acorn Squash
I've never tried planting acorn squash, but have spaghetti squash with great success. I just scoop out the seeds, wash them thoroughly with water only. Put them on a paper plate to dry. I've kept the seeds for up to a year and they are still viable.
