OOPS, forgot to post this earlier (it was the day before I moved my mom from rehab back to assisted living - I had a little on my mind LOL).

February 5th is 10 weeks before our supposed last frost date. In addition to starting broccoli, cabbage and parsley indoors, you can now add cauliflower and onions.

Has anyone started planting anything yet?

Here's what I started January 28th:

I just "HAD" the broccoflour going, until the cat thought they would be tasty morsels.

Anyone want a cat, slightly used?

LOL maybe you can make a miniature critter cage for your seed starters.

I started more broccoli cause I only had two start in my first six pack.

Also started more red cabbage cause... well, the seedlings look pretty bad to me, very leggy and maybe going to fall over. They had taken much longer to sprout than the broccoli, bok choy and green cabbage so I think they were on the seed mat too long.

I'd rather have too many seedlings than not enough...

My big plans for this weekend when my ten year old assistant is here is to lay out my grid the long way. This means pulling the straw mulch back some, laying strings across, and tying ott the ends with bricks outside the box to keep them anchored for the year.

We'll also pull back straw from where the peas and early brassicas will go and lay a window over it.

I bought 3 big wooden-framed windows at an auction years back for a buck. In the past, I've used them as the tops of cold frames built with straw bale walls. But now they're mostly just soil warmers for the SFG.

Ironically, after almost no winter, we've had snow several times in the past couple weeks, so will be a tad miserable getting out there to get started. Oh well.

I know what you mean. I "piddled" around while the weather was good and now I'm paying for it.
