Cold Frame
Tina!
I just put my seedlings in the cold frame for hardening off day 4. Going for 4 hours today before they go back under the lights.
Current temp was 41 outside when I put them in the frame where it was 57 degrees! I put 3 2-liter bottles of water in there too a few days back to trap additional and release solar heat....i think it might be working.
If you send me a private message through this forum with your email address I'll send you my plans.

Just wondering . . . in what direction does the frame face. Assuming it faces south, do the boxes receive a lot of shade from the trees I see in the background? Which, I assume are on the west side of the garden. Or are my directions wrong?

Yup, the frame faces south. I get about 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours of direct sun a day as the season progresses. Early morning to mid afternoon. The side of the boxes do get some shade on the inside but seeds have even sprouted in these areas.

Love that cold frame. I'm just a few exits down from you in Duxbury & I think I may have to have my darling husband copy that cold frame.

Thanks
Let me know if you have any questions about the construction or supplies used. The most expensive part was getting the plexi glass cut to size. (~$67) My local hardware store (Justice Hardware) did the work. I would be more than happy to assist you. This is my second year using it and I love it! I plan on really seriously pursuing a late fall crop under it this year.
Since it is also a 4x4 shape, the frame can be lifted from one site and easily located to another site. Old kitchen drawer cabinet handles were attached to the sides so lifting (with one other person) is really easy.
