Hmmm, are you asking if this is what we'll be planting this year? Pretty much, yes...we had all of that last year, well, not the Horseradish, Kohlrabi, Pak Choy...but everything else was in our garden.

Our garden boxes have Beets, Swish Chard, Spinach, Fennel, Lettuce and Snow Peas growing right now. The Herb Box has Oregano, Thyme (2 varieties) Rosemary, and 2 varieties of Sage still doing well even after our hard frosts. We'll replant the Basil, Chives, Dill, and Tarragon soon. The Lemon Balm is coming back...lots of new growth at the base of the dead looking sticks.

I'll wait to see what else comes up before adding more to the Herb Box. This is one we share with everyone in our Apollo Garden, and other neighbors who need something quickly to add to whatever they're cooking. This is what it looked like in June, then grew more lush during the summer

Al and I were looking at this box yesterday and have decided to remove the hoops...we don't use them and they're dangerously close to snapping. Al had one of these smack his face last winter when trying to adjust a hoop...not a fun thing at all! Ouch! Anyway, the hoop isn't necessary and the herbs look so lovely draping over the edges of the box. As we walk past the box and brush the plants the smells are delicious! We let some of the plants flower to attract more bees...even the hummingbirds come down to take a look.

Bumping for 2016. This is the time for starting many of summer crops from seeds. I'm going to be a little late this year but I hope everyone else is able to move ahead with seeding according to your little micro-climate. Very Happy

I'm still waiting until mid February before starting any seeds indoors. The sweet potato slips are doing good.

I'm waiting too. Normally I would start today, but there's too much rain ahead, so I'm going to wait another week and check the 10-day forecast again. bounce

I didn't share it at the time, but we just spent 8 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with our grandson, Hunter a little over a week ago. He was life-flighted from Children's Hospital in Fresno, to Kaiser in Santa Clara. It was a long hard battle, with a lot of praying, and now he's home about 90% on the mend. He had RSV and got dangerously dehydrated.

Soooo..... all that to say, my garden plans weren't on the top of my list so I'll have to start a little later than normal but with our long growing season, it will all work out.

Nana's garden will grow and she can't wait to share it with Hunter as he grows I love you

OMG, Audrey!! What a scary thing. Poor little guy. The good news is that little ones spring back so fast and forget so quickly, he should bounce back like a little garden toad. If he had to be life-flighted from Valley Children's then it was very serious. Little ones can go down hill so fast. I'm so glad he is recovering now. Wonderful that you could be with Hunter and his mom and dad at that scary time. xoxo

I am late this year, but just haven't been motivated to start the summer seeds. I want to change the design of the PVC shop light stands, and well, maybe tomorrow. Wink

I think if I get the seeds going by end of February it will be early enough. I just placed my very last orders of harder-to-find seeds from Renee's Garden and Burpee. After a false spring and winter drought (1.5" in central CA), we are headed into the 30s at night, with a tease of "maybe" some rain. Shocked

Summer seeds? Huh? I didn't think those were supposed to go in until Mar. 1. I'm still nurturing winter/spring seedlings. Shocked

The seeds I will be starting indoors at the end of February will be "summer" plants like tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, herbs and flowers. They will be hardened off and in the beds sometime in April, depending on the weather.

I start the seeds for my "cold weather / winter" plants, like broccoli and kale, in the early fall so that they can be planted out by Oct. 1.

Thursday I stopped by Home Depot and they had rows of veggies and herbs. Many of the tomatoes were big enough to be in 1 gallon containers. They are doing a big disservice to the customers, as most people that would buy tomatoes and peppers at this time would be back yard gardeners. They would not be stalking the weather reports and predictions like we do, noting a freeze coming. Sad

Think of it as an educational opportunity for those that buy Home Despot's way-too-early-to plant offerings. At least they'll have time to yank out those poor frost-killed veggies and replant; hopefully, they will not buy those big broccoli plants in the gallon containers that are about to flower Evil or Very Mad

I will be setting up the seedling station end of this month.

With this false spring, my winter plants don't know whether to bolt or head-up. The orange tree is starting to (??) send out new green growth and I haven't even harvested the fruit and pruned.

Bumping this thread for February (again!). This is the time to get the seeding stations set up and making sure one has all the seeds for 2019. Can't wait to try the two new 10" x 40" heat mats! Maybe I will get a higher germination rate??
