The Birth of a Earthworm
Warning:
The contents of this post contains actual photos of the birth of a earthworm.
The photos you are about to see are very graphic.
Photos may not be suitable for viewers who are squ-worm-ish.
Viewer discretion is advised.
The earthworm cocoon is no bigger than the end of a straight pin.
In this photo you can see the earthworm emerging from the cocoon.
and in this photo you can see the fully emerged earthworm
This photo was magnified 100 times actual size.
Do to the bright light used to photo the birth of the
earthworm emerging from the cocoon, the worm suffered severe squirming.
The earthworm has been moved to an isolated
controlled environment for further studies of any adverse effects that may
occur.

Re: The Birth of a Earthworm
Nice one Josh ,
Perhaps next time try photo shooting using a white LED cool light & Mr Wiggley will not be so uncomfortable .
Now for the questions .....
How long did have to wait for the pictures ?
What was the whole time sequence for the start to hatch to the escape ?
Have you been selecting various eggs and timing them to hatch ?
Have you identified a colour , shape or something of the egg that indicated hatching imminent ?

You never cease to amaze me, Josh! Great pix!!!
Does anyone else see Josh winning the national science fair one day, especially if he does a video of the hatching at some point along with all the rest of his wormy talents?!?!?
