This Forum Is The Best!!
Hi Everybody.
This summer I will garden for the first time and with all this info I might actually get something to grow!! I've spent hours today reading posts and have already learned so much. I'm planting 2- 8ft by 4ft beds of vegetables out here in Linden, VA.....near the Shenandoah Valley. Here is to a great growing season for all!!

The only way to fail............
in the SFG method is by not following the directions in Mel's book. Most common mistake, it seems, is not fluffing up your peat moss before mixing it with your compost combo and vermiculite.
Other than that, the system was pretty much idiot proof for this idiot. Of course, I made dozens of mistakes. But the plants still grew, and we ate very, very, well all summer.

Can't wait to see your garden grow!
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

No doubt you will make some mistakes yourself. Myself I think the two 8x4 beds may be a little too much to start with but we all have different capabilities, energy and money. If I was younger, stronger, and had more money then I would have started bigger.
Have you actually built your beds yet and sourced your MM ingredients? Look forward to seeing your results. Can't beat homegrown veggies.

Wow, how nice to meet someone else from Linden. My brother and nephew used to live in Linden! Up the paved road, then the gravel road through the apple orchards, onto the dirt road and then across the top onto the boulder road (the fire trail). I loved visiting them there.
Have you had a chance to read the book ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING? It is so full of great information and growing instructions. If not, please get a copy before you start planting. It really is easier to start out correctly than to find you made mistakes and need to redo things like your Mel's Mix.
If you have not already read it, this is a great thread MEL"S MIX
Again, Welcome and I am looking forward to hearing about your great growing season.
