Hi folks--my awesome gardening partner and I thought it might be fun to post a few pictures of some before/after scenes from a couple of our boxes. The salad green box has spinach, kale, arugula, swiss chard, and mesclun. The larger box has a bunch of stuff, from tomatoes to zucchini to pumpkins, hence the crowded trellises.

The above is our larger box, it is a 5x10

Below is our salad green box, a 4x4.

We're having an absolute blast with this whole project. Amazing how rewarding it is.

Well I'm jealous. I live just down the road in Wilmington, DE and while our garden is doing quite well, yours looks AWESOME! I can't believe your harvesting lettuce already - I started ours the 2nd week of April from seed and ours is no where near ready for eating.

Waiting impatiently....

Hehe, Warning: Leaves in these pictures may appear bigger than they actually are. They did taste great, though--the bowl of greens didn't even get a chance to become a proper salad...we just ate them right out of the bowl.

To be honest, our salad green box is something of an mystery...everything in it just grew like crazy. Our herb box is comparatively slow, as are our peppers and tomatoes.

Thanks for the compliment! We do consider ourselves very lucky.

Cheers!

very nice progress! i always take pictures on Saturday morning each week to keep up with the progression of all of my beds. it can be very rewarding to look back and see how far things have come. your are doing very well - i would love to see some of the progression pics of the maters! you both should be very proud.

Wow! That's beautiful, im soooo craving salad right now. And here I was pretty happy with my salad greens until i saw yours!

Hmmm i really like the way you did the pvc with bird netting - do you find it pretty easy to work with? Im using the plastic bunny fencing but it leaves the top open and I have lean over it to work. How do you get in there to tend, do you take the whole thing off or do you have a way to open up the netting?

The netting isn't terribly difficult to work with. Initially, I had bricks, along with a few random rocks holding down everything. Since, I've just pounded in a few nails to the sides of each bed, and hook the netting on/off those. I usually only unhook a portion of the netting to work in each box. It certainly isn't a perfect setup, but it is quite functional, and doesn't dissuade either myself or my Awesome Gardening Partner/girlfriend from checking up on things.

Thanks for the compliments, folks--I wish the rest of our vegetables were going as crazy as our salad greens, hehe.

The SFG looks great. Enjoy the salad while you can. It's already too hot here in Texas. Over the weekend I pulled up my last 6 squares of lettuce (very bitter now) and replaced them with purple hull bush beans.

That was a great comparison. It gives us later-in-the-season gardeners much to hope for in another month or so.
Good work.
