Build more Boxes Today

Post  Mtman1849 on Mon Jan 16, 2012 9:31 am

I currently have 10 4x4 boxes, so I thought today when it warms up a little most likely after lunch. It is going to be 50-55 degrees. I am going to start building some more boxes.
I bought I book last year called the "The Backyard Homestead", it is a book about how to produce everything you need on less than an acre. So I'm going to try to put some of the stuff into practice. So I am going to start by building 7 more boxes 4x8. I don't think I will be able to do all the stuff especially when it comes to digging up all of my Wife's flowers and replacing every thing in her flower beds with something edible. If you hear on the new of a guy in NC being killed by wife after digging up flower beds, that was me Very Happy. If anyone is interest I got the book at tractor supply for 19 dollars. Anyway that is my plans for today. And aside form changing to all heirloom seeds and plants this year, everything else will be just like last year.

Good to see you back Mtman Very Happy

Will follow your project like this

Keep us posted pls. I will be purchasing the book you recommended. Have you read John Seymour's "The guide to Self-Sufficiency"? That is like my bible on the subject.

That is kewl! I got my start in the 70's with a book called "Half Acre Eden." A couple of years later there was a group of kids in Berkley (Ha! kids, they were older than me at the time-I was just out of high-school) who bought a house near the university to see if they could be self sustaining before there were phrases like "off the grid" Compostable toilets and peeing into a holding tank to put back into the gardens, silk worms in the front hedge for extra income (don't think that one worked so well), solar ovens, battery cages for hens and chickens and every possible space given to gardening. The point being that some day you will be the spark that ignites another generations fire.

...snip... I don't think I will be able to do all the stuff especially when it comes to digging up all of my Wife's flowers and replacing every thing in her flower beds with something edible. If you hear on the new of a guy in NC being killed by wife after digging up flower beds, that was me ....snip...

When we moved into the new place I thought about pulling all the useless flowering plants but the bees love them so they stay. (You love the wife more than the idea.....right?)
