OH CRAP ANOTHER PROBLEM!

Post  cindyroo on 3/31/2010, 7:27 pm

I haven't even had a chance to spray my kale leaves for aphids when I looked at my tomatoe plants today and the leaves are turning white!!! It rained a lot this week and it's been really windy off and on. I see no bugs. And I use homemade Mels Mix. The gardens have been planted only since this past Sunday. Temps have been mild - around 55-70 or so. I live in southeast VA.

I have pictures of the poor little things but no way to post them.

Any ideas???

Cindy

Cindy: Tomato leaves that turn white can be caused by improper hardening off. To properly harden off plants they need to be exposed to the sun on a gradual basis starting at one hour the first day and increasing the amount of sun each day for at least 7 days. Many plants that are sold at nurseries have not been hardened off at all. Just packed straight from the hot house and trucked to the retail seller.

God Bless, Ward.

I got powdery mildew on my squash last year. I sprayed it with milk (can't remember if it was diluted) and it worked like a charm!

doesn't look like powdery mildew - maybe what Ward said? And Ward, will they spring back if they are put outside too abruptly? (Assuming no extremes of weather.)
