cannot wait for spring bulbs
I have had a very Merry early Christmas. Last week I followed a led on getting a donation of bulbs for the school garden I volunteer in. Some of you may remember that was one of the main reasons I took the Master Gardener Course. Well the donation was very generous. (We got to pick out the bulbs. I felt like a kid in a candy store or that I was robbing a bank, while somebody held the door.) To the tune of over 3,000 bulbs. What never occurred to me was the need to plant all of those bulbs before Christmas. Today we finished the last class of school kids and dug the last hole for 2011. Even after 3.5 days of hard work I am still very happy and I cannot wait until Spring to see everything in bloom. I just had to brag. Thanks for indulging me.

Wow Patty! That's terrific!
The temp was in the 60s today, but my back is out so I couldn't get the last of the bulbs in today. I can only imagine what an effort that took.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Re: cannot wait for spring bulbs
Thanks everybody for the well wishes. I will try to take photos in the spring and learn to post them. I think it took 2 of us about 20 hours each to get the bulbs planted. We had a lot of child labor, so things went pretty fast. It would have gone quicker if we did not have to do so much reading to figure out what went where and bloomed when in the sun or shade. We also had to do all the digging, as the garden has a lot of perennials and daffodils already in it. I still think it was well worth it and it gives me something to look forward to in the spring. Merry Christmas.
