Well, most of you have been human mamas, and I have only been a horse mama, so I am sure you all know more about this than I do, but the colostrum/antibodies are SOOO important, that I'm sure I would have made the same choice.

Yes I agree on the importance of good colostrum and good immunity. But I also think it's the sudden $600 surprise cost for administering the plasma that could make some people gamble and do without. We watched the entire 11-1/2 month gestation so we could not turn our backs when the little guy arrived and hope nature would somehow come through.

And I'm not judging those who wouldn't have it done. I am, however, judging those who judge YOU for having it done!

Walshevak -
Enjoyed the camel picture! It looks like they are unrestrained, like people do with their dogs in a truck. For their own safety and no camel experience to draw from, don't think I'd transport them like that. It still makes an enjoyable funny picture.

Martha - Oh yes!,
Because other factors come into play concerning the care of animals. Right? Knowledge, sound animal husbandry judgement, and that annoying issue of money everyone deals with, ultimately allows or inhibits the best of intentions.

You have to rememer the picture was taken in Libya, and for all I know those camel were on their way to the meat market. And yes, camel meat is very good. But a good camel can mean the difference between life and death to the nomads. Wonder if camel poop is good fertilizer. I know it is used as fire chips.

Here is a picture taken in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan of a camel being loaded for transport. notice the legs are restrained so the animal cannot stand up at an inappropriate time.

I learned to accept a lot of different ways of life in all my travels and to appreciate life in the USA even when I don't agree with some of it.
