"I'm dreaming of a white Halloween" Nightmare!

Post  Nicola on 30th October 2011, 4:17 pm

Almost got through all of October without a killing frost, and I got spoiled! But, with hurricane season still on the calendar, we got several inches of SNOW dumped on us; I mean, come on! It's like one of those strange, bad dreams.Evil or Very Mad
Oh, well, I don't have much to complain about, honestly. I know I am blessed, and I am thankful. The branches that came off the maple tree in the backyard, missed the SFG, the big garden, both cars, and the chicken coop! And we still have electricity (which powers everything in here: the stove, heat, and hot water, as well as lights and modern luxuries like the TV for news updates, and this computer). I'm even able to put up one extra family member for the night. I just need to whine a little bit! Mad I wasn't quite done with gardening for the season, and neither was my garden! I haven't even gotten my garlic, let alone planted it, I was waiting for a few more tomatoes to ripen, and I just noticed more tiny yellow flowers on my overgrown Mexican Gherkin vines 2 days ago...

Chin up and don't fear, this is but a temporary set back. The snow is melting and will be gone shortly, BUT you have not much time to wrap it up. the ground is not yet frozen but it soon will be. I still have plants and many bulbs to put in the ground and am hopeful that cabbages bounce back for a few more weeks of growing.
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day he was commenting that he usually plants his garlic by using a shovel to lift thick slabs of frozen soil to put in his garlic in late. He is so silly. Very Happy

I had the most wonderful garlic harvest this year and want to plant again this fall. I also have not done it yet...I hope I get to...life is throwing me all kinds of curve balls!

Chin up! My favorite saying is if I don't do it this time I always have next year! Smile

Where I lived in Colorado, we frequently had white Halloweens and white Easters sandwiching green Christmases. Now that's just wrong.

As Jeff Foxworthy said in his comedy tour here:

"If you have to design your kid's halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you just might be from South Dakota!"
