After SFG this season, I am still in the process of getting five different composts together (I'm up to four). One option is bagged mushroom soil but I was concerned that I was just getting more manure. Actually mushroom soil is a recipe that varies by producer and is sterilized meaning the bad and good bacteria are destroyed (another reason for multiple composts). You may find this link useful and interesting on the subject.

Check this link from OSU EXTENSION RE MUSHROOM COMPOST

It does say to be careful how much mushroom compost you use and not to plant directly in straight mushroom compost, but there is a little more info on the pasturization at 140 degrees, not sterilization as such. IMO

Thanks for the link. I saw that initially which led me to look further. The issue of the salts in mushroom soil may be too strong for some plants had me concerned.

Another advantage of SFG, and raised beds in general, is that salts are easily drained away with watering.
