Re: Winter pre-discussion..
FV, I'm new relatively new to gardening and know next to nothing about chickens but goats I do know. My goats are mostly fenced in the 52 inch stock panels wired to T posts and rarely get out. Many of my gates are pieces of stock panels with wire for hinges and wired or chained shut. In some places I have a hot wire along the top so they learn not to jump and so the bucks stay in their pen.FarmerValerie wrote:I honestly don't know what I'm going to do this year. Evidently putting a real gate on the goats never made it to the priority list, and my husband wants free range chickens.
The garden area is also fenced in with hog panels, to keep the dogs & goats out. This it a shorter fence but has worked fine so far.
This picture shows one of the stock panel gates in front of this buck. It is chained shut. Behind him is the open gate to his pen.

Re: Winter pre-discussion..
That's what we have, but the "gate" is just the wire "tied" to one t-post. I'll be okay, I'm just cranky due to the heat, thanks for sharing, you've got some good lookin' fellas there!

That would be Blended Gumbo, right?

My wife must know I married up. She doesn't try to guard me from others. She often says, "Go ahead and try. I'll just sit here with my popcorn and watch. I KNOW your game. You're just going to try and get her to laugh....thinking that will work."
That usually stops me cold.

Uh, it worked on her didn't it?
Humor is often listed as the number one personality trait women are attracted to. Be advised, that is referring to grownup humor, not about grownup boys' giggling about bodily noises!

I can't believe you missed the thread a couple days where someone suggested pouring beer on compost piles for the bacterial benefits. I didn't say a word! But you better believe I was thinking that recycled beer works just as well!

Ok, this yankee wants to be a transplanted south when i grow up!
My sister in law, who is from Louisana, made us chicken and sausage gumbo during her last visit here. What can I say??
OMG!!!! Loved it!
If this thread is an indicator to this winter's action, this is going to be hilarious! Thanks everyone!

I honestly have never had gumbo in my life. Probably because the furthest south I've been was northern West Virginia.
No wait! I visited Atlanta last year. However, I didn't see anything gumbo related on the menus.

Boffer sometimes I wonder about your urine fixation. I sware you must have the most posts with the word urine in them by ten times. Just wondering where did you came by that little nugget of information?boffer wrote:Speaking of being territorial, did you know that back in the cave man days, women used to pee on their man to mark their territory? Actually BBG, that would be taawp, 2 syllables, ta-awp. Think Lorretta Lynn, she made hard and tired (taared) rhyme.
I will try to get a Gumbo recipe up today or tomorrow, provided the mouse holds up, it seems to be working right now. Seems fitting for this forum since the word Gumbo is supposed to be from the African word for Okra, and Gumbo means "with okra", and most of what is in it can be grown, or caught from the yard (chicken) or along the coast. I have to get out in the yard today and get the posts set for the chicken yard, it's only supposed to be 98 today at our house.
Re: Winter pre-discussion..
that would be wonderful FV, from watching "Swamp People" All cajan dishes consists of the "Holy Trinity" (bell peppers, onions and celery). I'll have to add celery to next year's plan. LOL

Re: Winter pre-discussion..
Okay, in recipes, in the soup thread is the recipe for Gumbo-roux. The roux is the key, if it's not right, it does not matter that everything else is. I'll get a Gumbo thread going, and add some recipes for gumbo and stews in a bit, the roux took 20 minutes alone. I do ask that we keep the roux thread for roux, again I cannot stress how important the roux is, a bad roux will ruin not only your gumbo/stew it could forever ruin your taste for it. Whew, I'm tired, I need more coffee and to line out my kiddos, I'll get the recipes for Gumbos/Stews started in a bit.

Just looking quickly at that map, the FA is forecasting another La Nina (double dip) without saying as much. It looks very similar to last winter.

Oh my goodness, capatl! How cute is that video? I swear I don't make 2 syllables out of the word "north!" There are different subtleties to southern accents in different states, I guess.

I laughed so hard I had tears! The video made me think of Abbot & Costello's "Who's on first?" routine! Are any of you too young to know what I'm talking about?

One of my faves.
Is it ok to tell you all that the video reminded me of my MIL? Sadly, I'm not really joking. That's how she'd react on tv, too.
