Got an email from we grow garlic this evening that their seasons final inventory was up for sale so hurried in my order. Some stuff is gone some is thin already. Suppose other houses are about at the same point. My first effort with ordering, in the past just got it from the grocery store. This will be an adventure all $75 worth plus shipping.

Trust me on this - Unless the ground is frozen hard, there is no bad time for planting multiplier onions. I have Egyptian Walking Onions by my shed, by my propane tank (1000 gal, will soon be hidden), scattered in my herbs, and some hiding in my irises plotting a take-over!

The ones down the side of my shed (my official onion plot) are the unwanted ones that I had to dig out of my garden 3 years ago when they tried taking over the entire garden plot. I just threw them in the tangle of weeds that was on the side hidden from the street. Let me tell you - quack grass, thistles, and dandelions don't stand a chance against those things! I have given up trying to get rid of them, I now just try to manage them.........

Had this sinking feeling that I would not get any ordered myself and felt lucky they informed us, that is why this thread got started. Glad it could help somebody.
Oh, GG thanks for the bad news I have the Egyptians and another kind of traveler. So far both are off to a slow start at taking over but I was likewise warned beforehand. At this point about 4 years later there is no serious regret just a constant nervous watchful eye. I have occasionally removed a new distant start of the Egyptians and remove some of the new growth on the main bunch yearly to keep it in check.

I am going to use a seperate sfg bed for the onions and the garlic...that way I don't have to worry anymore (well maybe lol) about NOT putting my beans by the onions!

Glad for the heads up on trying to manage the onions. I will keep them corralled ..well try anyway!

Ok - am loving all these varieties of garlic. I have never grown it before. I read the information about container growing on the planting and growing section at "wegrowgarlic". It sounded like they needed to be in a deep container. Has anyone planted these in SFGs with bottoms? Or are you putting them in bottomless SFGs?

I am doing mine in bottomless sfg. From all I have read and the little I experienced this year (first time planting) both are shallow root plants. But must have good drainage!! Perfect for SFG and MM!

Mine started off slow as well, so I (IDIOT!!!) actually TRIED to make them spread for the first 2 years. THIS IS A WARNING TO ALL WITH EGYPTIAN ONIONS!!!!! Give them time and they will take over the world. THEY DON'T NEED ANY HELP!!! Fortunately, I love them and use them in all kinds of cooking. I also work at a place that has a kitchen attached to the main office and a group of employees who are more than happy to try anything I (or any one of us in the office) is willing to bring in and cook! This time of year they get a LOT of recipes that call for green onions Twisted Evil !
