Re: ??what to do if a corn stock grow's an extra stock??
They're called Suckers. My dad always broke them off so they didn't take energy from the main plant, some people insist they should be left on so breaking them off doesn't shock the main plant. Sorry, not much help!

I've read that in years past, they were taken off to increase yield. But in more recent studies, they've found when left on they actually increase yield. Can't say where I read it, cause it was a couple years back. So, I leave mine on.

We call them "tillers" and leave them on. Once upon a time my FIL decided my garden was not as it should be and one thing he did was remove all the tillers. Next day the corn all fell over.

This is a really good article on tillers (suckers) on corn, from Perdue University. Basically, it says they're neutral.

I've always left them on; sometimes they produce an extra ear. Here's one plant from last year that produced, I think, 4 tillers.
